I'd booked our posse a table at the trendiest bar in town to celebrate the end of my degree, and a successful final performance recital , it was a blast and now that the degree was over, we could all celebrate and figure out the next steps of our lives!
This venue was class, with it's gold chandeliers, big velvet seats with gold trimming and the fanciest bar. There were beautiful people everywhere, flashing lights, cameras, loud music, fancy bottles (not glasses but bottles) of wine all over our table, our friends were around us, and there was love and magic in the air, everyone was feeling it.
While we were stylishly dancing around with all the beautiful people, I told my fabulous trumpet player friend Sammy that I wanted to move to New York and give my music career a real shot, I felt like i've been here a while now (kind of like how I felt when it was nearing the end of high school and I wanted out of Clowntown) and so I was thinking about the idea of just moving on with things - to another country, a fabulous city, and why not? As we were swaying around we were saying just how marvelous it would be and "Can you imagine?"....
"Can you imagine?" What I could do in New York?
"Can you imagine?" what kind of people you would meet?
"Can you imagine?" The opportunities in career and growth?
I was swirling around on the dancefloor thinking of the endless possibilities with my head in the clouds when Bridget grabbed me, pulled me in and yelled over the music "TAM! YOU CAN'T KEEP WAITING FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN! YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN YOURSELF! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, YOU HAVE A CAREER IN MUSIC, JUST FUCKING DO IT ALREADY........!"
Well... it was something to that effect...
I nodded in agreement and pretty much yelled exactly the same thing back at her over the pulsing music about her career in writing and acting and everything else she does. See Bridg won't tell you, but she is quite the actress and an accomplished writer, has had her plays put on by QLD theatre company and others, has even had a book published! I will let her fill you in more this this though....
And so, there, on the dance floor at Zuri Bar in Brisbane Australia on the 25th of June 2010 (which also just happened to be Michael Jackson's 1 year anniversary of his death), Bridget and myself made the commitment to get our shit together with our careers, move to NYC and just do it. Just give our dreams that we've talked about since we were kids a real shot.
So follow us in our blog and adventures, we will be posting all kinds of things in the lead up to March 2011 when we step foot and heart into the centre of the universe that we know as New York City.
ciao bella
